The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years, however the guys at Epiphone threw out the rulebook on this one, to design and make, a less than traditional ‘Les Paul’, but a new modern, wild rock/metal weapon, with all the greatest elements from the original design, but tweaked for purpose-built modern rock metal perfection. Built in 2012 in China, this model was designed with the heavier player in mind. I believe that originally it left the factory finished in 'Midnight Sapphire', but after years of natural UV exposure, the highly figured quilted maple top has beautifully aged into something far more unique. It now looks more akin to a deep, translucent ebony with just a subtle hint of the original sapphire blue remaining beneath the grain. Combined with the top-of-the-range Custom body binding, black hardware, and custom headstock inlay, it is an absolutely stunning instrument.

Unlike a traditional Les Paul, this neck is built for speed and extended range. It features a glued-in mahogany neck with a smooth matte finish, paired with a gorgeous ebony fingerboard and seductive 'blade' inlays. This combination of a fast matte neck and slick ebony board is superb under the hand, and honestly, it is one of my personal favourites. Crucially, it boasts a full 24 jumbo frets, giving you two complete octaves and vastly more scope for playing higher up the neck. Under the hood, it delivers immense punch with a set of active EMG humbuckers, an EMG-85 in the neck and an EMG-81 in the bridge. A fresh 9V battery has just been fitted, so it is fully armed and ready to go.

Condition-wise, for a 14-year-old heavy rock guitar, it is in really great shape. There was a minor dent above the serial number, which is purely cosmetic. I have sympathetically filled and smoothed this area to ensure there is no future chipping around the mark. There is also normal age-related light surface belt buckle rub on the back, which is not really noticeable unless under direct lighting. The black bridge pieces show some normal age-related wear, and there are slight marks on the LockTone stopbar tailpiece where a previous owner top-wrapped the strings. The truss rod cover is also a replacement. All of this is fully shown in the photos, representing purely cosmetic signs of a played instrument that give it authentic character without affecting its rock-solid performance.

As with all instruments that pass through my hands at Sosbro Guitar Co., this guitar has just undergone a thorough professional refurbishment and setup to ensure it arrives stage and studio ready and plays to its best ability. For this specific guitar, the frets have been recrowned, giving the guitar a whole new lease of life. During its service, I removed the old strings, cleaned & polished the fretwire, cleaned and treated the ebony board, cleaned and tested all the electronics, and polished the entire guitar. Finally, it was restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9-42 gauge), tuned, and dialed in with a comfortable medium action that makes it an absolute joy to play.

No gig bag or hard case is included in the price, but as a specialist reseller, I have various suitable options available separately. I stock a number of brand-new big brand name bags and cases, as well as a few quality second-hand options. Just ask for details, and I’ll be happy to offer a discount when a case is purchased together with the guitar.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
